Travel from historic Hanoi to modern Ho Chi Minh City
Capture the spirit of magical Vietnam on this compact tour from the colonial charm of Hanoi to the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City, on this new adventure, designed for solo travellers only. Sip coffee with locals in Hanoi and shop up a storm in the Old Quarter, cruise along emerald waters on a Halong Bay boat trip, travel through old-world Hue and Hoi An and get lost in the hustle and bustle of Ho Chi Minh City. This is an adventure full of beauty and contrast that introduces Vietnam as a country of incredible food, lively locals, stunning scenery and cosmopolitan cities.
Bid farewell to the capital – today we’re heading to the emerald waters of Halong Bay. After an early start, we’ll arrive at this World Heritage Site by noon to board a traditional junk boat. You’ll set sail and tuck into a delicious lunch on-deck, enjoying dazzling views of over 2000 jagged islets. After lunch, we’ll kayak the bay, paddling through limestone caves and past floating fishing villages. Cold drinks are ready and waiting back on deck, where you can spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing. There’s also an optional Vietnamese cooking class onboard. Then, as the sun begins to set, dinner is served up by your own personal chef. Come evening, take in those blazing sunset views with sundowners and a spot of squid fishing (season dependent). Then as darkness falls, make the most of your private location and sing your hearts out with a night of karaoke and dancing under the stars.
Wake up to the sound of lapping waves and enjoy a lazy start to the day, perfect for sleeping off any sore heads after last night’s mammoth karaoke session. Spend the day relaxing and doing yoga on deck, before a hearty breakfast looking out to shimmering views across the bay. We’re then heading to Hanoi.
This morning after breakfast, head to the airport to catch a flight to Danang. From here we’ll soar into the skies on a flight to Danang, where you’ll be transferred to Hoi An. Take in views of lantern-lined streets and timeless architecture in this historic town, before checking into your boutique home for the next two nights.
Wake in the charming town of Hoi An, ready to explore this former trading port. With Chinese, Dutch, French, Japanese, Portuguese and Arab merchants trading here between the 16th and 18th centuries, you’ll find a blend of different cultures and preserved architecture. We’ll go on a walkabout through the car-free streets, stopping first at the Chua Ong Pagoda where you’ll find locals worshipping and offering incense. From here we’ll hop over to the Jinshang Temple, stop by the 200-year-old Tan Ky House and stroll across the picture-perfect 17th-century bridge built by Japanese craftsmen. Then we’ll cycle through the beautiful countryside surrounding Hoi An, before catching a short boat ride across the Thu Bon river to Cam Kim island. From here we’ll cycle along the quiet roads and rice paddies, basking in this peaceful insight into local rural life. We’ll then head back to the hotel for cold drinks and a welcome dip in the pool.
Trade the genteel charm of Hoi An for its louder sister today as we take a short flight south to Ho Chi Minh. Still widely known as Saigon, Vietnam’s largest city combines old-school soul with rapid globalisation. After checking into our hotel, we’ll dive into the beating soul of the place with a Vespa safari. Jump aboard a fleet of retro bikes and zip through the alleyways, pootling your way between tooting horns to discover elegant, tree-lined avenues and backstreets packed with neon-lit storefronts. This is your chance to see some of Ho Chi Minh’s most lauded sights, including Bình Tây Market, the Reunification Palace and Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica. From towering skyscrapers to the lazy Saigon River and bicycle vendors loaded down with peach blossom, there’s so much to see here and we’ll make a series of food stops, too.
This vespa tour has been assessed for safety and is closely monitored. To participate please ensure your travel insurance covers riding pillion on a motorbike up to 150cc. If you prefer not to participate, please let your leader know and they will arrange alternative activity.
The time has come to arrange your transfer to the airport. From the street food delights of Hanoi to sailing and kayaking Halong Bay, what a week it’s been! We’ve stayed overnight on a traditional junk boat and explored the wonders of Thien Canh Son Cave. We’ve cycled a lush green island and cooked up a storm in Hoi An. And we’ve crawled through the tunnels of Cu Chi, rounding things off with craft beer and a Vespa safari in Ho Chi Minh.
